The Slidell Hurricane Damage Blog
Brian Oberkirch, our CEO, is from a small town just outside of New Orleans called Slidell. Both he and his wife were raised in the area, have parents living there, and have friends and relatives devastated by the hurricane. Everytime Brian and I would talk he was telling about the lack of news from the area. He had little tidbits, but no one had the full story. The picture to the right is the bridge to Slidell.
I suggested that he start a blog where he could share his feelings and information about Katarina and its wrath (this seemed obvious since he runs a blog consultancy). Anyway, he had one of the techs set it up and within an hour he was posting. Shortly thereafter a reporter from CNN IM’d him asking for information, next Brian’s high school buddies were calling him after they read the blog and all sorts of people who had little bits of information were contacting him.
Interestingly Brian posted the blog so that he could share the little information he had, and as a result a much larger dialogue was created. You can visit the Slidell blog here: slidell.weblogswork.com. On a more somber note, I am shocked by how bad it really is – we are still working on ideas to help out. I think Brian will be headed back very soon.
Update: You can help the victims of Hurricane Katarina by donating to the Red Cross.

Does anyone know anything about the Lakewood Subdivision in Slidell? We live on Eastwood Drive and cannot find out anything about our street. Also, my daughter and her family live on Spartan Loop across from Salmen High School. We want to go back in, but don’t know what, when, how, etc. We are currently in Atlanta, Georgia with family. One more item, our neighbors, Kenny and Marilee Bourg (also on Eastwood Drive) were going to stay. I spoke with them on Sunday night, and have not heard a thing since. Thanks for help from anyone.

I’ve heard that Eastwood Drive in the Lakewood Subdivision has faired pretty okay with minimal water and mostly tree and wind damage. I have a close friend who lives on that street as well and had evacuated to Jacksonville, FL.

Has anyone heard any information about Northshore Hospital. My aunt is an RN in the ER there and was on the team that stayed to work. We think her kids also stayed with her. If anyone has any information please let me know. I have evacuated to Houston, and am apparently staying here indefinitely. I am a teacher at PJP and haven’t heard anything about it either. Thank you to everyone who has helped so far and for all the prayers and good deeds that continue.

I read about this blog in the Times of London. Does anyone know about the people in Clara Drive? I hope the best for them (indeed, for all of you!), and especially my friends Barbara Avery and her husband Ray Brady, who live at 213 Clara Drive in Slidell. Thank you.
