Scanner Kit SDK for Developers

Interested in including barcode scanning in your iPhone or Android mobile application? The same technology that powers applications like ShopSavvy, CNET and PriceGrabber is now available to developers. Almost two years ago our team released ShopSavvy making barcode scanning on smartphones a reality. Along the way we considered selling our technology to developers, but ultimately we decided to release our barcode scanning library for free to anyone who decide leverage our product specific ad framework in their mobile application. By combining the consumer’s purchase intent (i.e. the product he scanned) and his location our framework delivers ‘ads that do more’. Our ad framework is more like a plug-in framework for barcode-powered applications than a banner ad delivery system (pardon the commercial interruption, now back to the SDK). Feel free to use our SDK in your app, but make sure you include the ad framework. We won’t turn insert any ads in your app without working with you to set the rules and filters. Additionally, unless you specifically want us to include ads in your app (i.e. you want the revenue) we won’t schedule a call to set up the rules and filters until you reach around 100,000 users. So in the meantime, you can enjoy our scanning technology ad free.
The Barcode Scanner SDK supports 1D (UPC and EAN) and 2D (QR and Datamatrix) barcodes. Our technology is specifically designed to work with both fixed and variable focal length cameras. Simply execute our simple license agreement and you have instant access to all current and future Barcode Scanner SDKs – including: Scanner Kit SDK for iPhone (updated for iOS4), Scanner Kit SDK for Android, Windows Mobile Barcode Scanner SDK (coming soon), Blackberry Barcode Scanner SDK (coming soon), and Symbian Barcode Scanner SDK (coming soon). Our SDKs currently support:
- UPC-A and UPC-E
- EAN-8 and EAN-13
- Code 39 (VIN Barcode SDK only)
- Code 128
- QR Code
- ITF
- RSS-14 (Stacked and Limited)
- Data Matrix (‘alpha’ quality)
- PDF 417 (‘alpha’ quality)
- Databar (coming soon)
Why should you use our SDKs versus open source solutions such as ZXing (Zebra Crossing)? Hundreds of Android apps have leveraged open source solutions for more than a year, but these open source solutions have a major limitation – the need for a variable focus length camera (i.e. auto-focus). Legacy iPhones including the 2G and 3G have fixed focal length cameras making open source solutions like ZXing inoperable. Ironically, almost 30% of new Android phones coming on the market will have fixed focal length cameras as well. Even popular, widely distributed phones like Verizon’s Devour have fixed focal length cameras. Our SDK can work with either camera type making it the most flexible and relevant barcode scanner on the market – especially at this price point. Learn more about our SDK and license by downloading the iPhone PDF or Android PDF.
Finally, if you are happy with your own barcode scanning solution you can always leverate our ad framework in your app.
