California VCs opening offices in India

Since my trip to Bangalore earlier this year I have spent quite a bit of time thinking about India and talking to Indian entrepreneurs.  The Barcamp we had at Yahoo has helped me foster several valuable relationships.  I even seriously discussed moving to India with my wife (who was not interested).  There is no dearth […]

The spirit of Barcamp: India Rocks!

Lots of conversations are going on about Barcamp Bangalore. It is clear to me that my new Indian friends really got the ’spirit of barcamp’ as explained by Nichant Shah:
So the barcamp bangalore came to a resounding end. It actually made a larger bang than the big bang, at least in the techie […]

BarCamp as a Movement

What is BarCamp? Technology communities who previously depended on companies like O’Reilly to organize events on their behalf now self-organizing their own events. The typical O’Reilly conference can cost each participant $2000 plus travel. The typical BarCamp can be organized for less than $2000 for the entire event! The first BarCamp […]

BarCamp Bangalore Starts Today!

Got together with some of the BarCamp organizers last night for a pre-barcamp dinner.  The event looks to be promising and there is evidence that the people here really ‘get’ the ’spirt of barcamp.’  If you have been trying to reach me, don’t worry, but my phone is not working here.  I will be on […]

The BarCamp Bangalore Podcast has been created.  Check it out here.  There are two pre-barcamp episodes there already (the first is an overview of BarCampDallas from Brian and the second is a general conversation about BarCamp by Chris Messina).  The Podcast is public, thus anyone with video (mov, mp4) or audio (mp3) from or about […]

Eclipse at Sun

I met Simon Phipps’s from Sun at SXSW and we talked about getting SimpleTicket to run on their new Sun Fire T2000 server (it only runs on Linux now). I had requested a free server after reading Jonathan’s blog describing the free server program. I filled out the online request form found here. […]

Conference Mashup

This weekend we successfully attended two conferences, BarCampAustin and SXSW in a grueling ‘conference mashup’ we called SXSWCamp.  The best panel of the two on Saturday was the Open Source Panel after dinner (it was at BarCamp).  We are now at the startup panel at SXSW (Lopp, Spolsky, Sasser, Williams, and Schachter).

Does Blake Rhodes Exist?

This evening the main conversation was about Icerocket’s founder Blake Rhodes. The question? Does he even exist? Here are some theories:

Blake Rhodes is a psudeonym for an India programmer named Sanjay
Blake Rhodes is actually Mark Cuban
Blake Rhodes is actually an anagram (you figure it out)
Blake Rhodes is a 10 year old prodigy […]
